If you or your child are ill on the day of the appointment or have been ill with gastro symptoms in the prior 48 hours,

  • please ensure you advise us before coming to the clinic.

YOUR DOCTOR may REQUIRE

  • YOU TO ATTEND VIA VIDEO,

  • RESCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT OR

  • MAKE SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS TO MINIMISE THE RISK OF VIRAL TRANSMISSION TO OTHERS.

Illnesses such as Influenza, Gastroenteritis, Bronchiolitis, RSV and COVID-19 can pose very serious risks, especially to infants, small children and other immuno-compromised people who may be exposed in the practice. If doctors become ill, care for babies and children can be disrupted.

Video appointments

when a parent or child is ill with a virus, Attending the consultation on video is often the best way to

  • avoid delays in care for your child and other patients.

  • avoid transmitting viral infections to other patients, staff and your doctor.

Most paediatric consultation time is given to history taking, discussion, and questions as well as observation of the child, as they play and interact with their parents and the doctor. Your paediatrician may also need to do a physical examination of your child, but these physical examinations often only take a small part of an appointment’s time. If you have done the main part of the work in a video consultation, a brief appointment in rooms can be organised for a physical examination if needed..

We have invested in a leading health industry-focused video platform that allows us to closely simulate the experience of an in-room consultation. Video Appointments cost more to offer and manage, costs the practice has been happy to absorb to help manage the risks of serious infectious disease transmission.

Video appointments may be necessary from time to time

Unless a parent is too ill to participate well in the consultation., your doctor may require that an appointment be kept on Video.

  • if a parent or their child or the provider are infectious (with any virus), or are isolating but well enough to attend or be present via video.

  • and where a physical examination is not expected to be necessary to progress your child’s healthcare.

Special arrangements may be required to minimise infectious risk if attending appointments in the rooms.

Your doctor may agree to see your child in the rooms even though they or you may be ill. This decision is made on a case by case basis and in the light of the doctor’s discretion and judgement of the risk. The associated doctors will work with Prosper Paediatrics to balance the needs of other children needing in-rooms consultation, newborns, public hospital medical staffing needs, private hospital neonatal care responsibilities and other considerations.

At some times of the year, we may decide to institute additional viral infection risk precautions such as:

  • reducing visitor density, such as by requiring some appointments be changed to Video, or asking families to wait in their car, or limiting the number of people accompanying a child to an appointment.

  • extra social distancing measures.

  • the use of PPE and masks.

  • extra cleaning requirements,

The government may impose pandemic regulations requiring these measures in the context of a severe pandemic.

When increased viral infection risks are apparent, such as in “flu season” or when a contagious patient comes to the rooms, extra cleaning and sanitising of our rooms become necessary.

In-rooms appointments-precautions when infectious illness risks are heightened:

When attending, please take extra care with social distancing and hygiene during the time of your appointment; please wait outside if possible and practicable (check with staff) and follow directions as to where to wait, etc.

Generally, only one parent and the child who is the patient should come but please check with staff to discuss varying this.

Practice good, cough, sneeze and hand hygiene:

  • no food, wash hands when you arrive and after coughing or sneezing, use sanitiser, avoid play with phones and other devices or clean them thoroughly before the visit.

  • Limit the choice of toys for your child and limit their movement to keep them close during the visit.

If you arrive at our clinic and it is apparent that you or your child are suffering from symptoms of an infectious illness or have had recent gastrointestinal symptoms, our practice reserves the right to ask you to leave the clinic and reschedule your appointment.
